Direct surroundings
Rio Blanco ‘El Sol Verde’ is located at the border of the village of Curubandé, between two rivers, Rio Colorado and Rio Blanco. It will only take a three minutes' walk to the Rio Colorado, the living area of a group of howler monkeys. The Rio Blanco is a little further away, but still at walking distance. On hot days it is possible to have a safe and refreshing swim in the deeper parts of the Rio Blanco.

Close by, in the village, you will find a mini-super, where you can buy refreshments, and there also are two small restaurants, where you can have a simple breakfast, lunch or dinner. Besides a school and a church there is a special community space (the Salon Comunal) where not only local meetings, but also dance- parties and festivities are being organised.

National Park Rincón de la Vieja
Rincón de la Vieja This 14,161 hectares National Park, located 10 km east of Curubandé, is named after the volcano Rincón de la Vieja. At the 1895 meter summit there are nine craters, of which only one is gently active.

The National Park is famous for its fumaroles, boiling mud pools, steam vents and sulphurous springs. The adventurous"las Pailas" trail leads you to all these volcanic features while nature changes from tropical forest with streams and rivers to open grassy fields with stately views. Two other trails lead to two beautiful waterfalls, where the refreshing water invites for a swim, so bring your bathing suit! There is a rich variety of wildlife in the park. Almost 300 species of birds can be spotted here, as well as many types of mammals and butterflies.

Besides hiking it is also possible to do a canopy-tour, to go horseback riding, tubing or kayaking. Or what about relaxing a day at the hot springs. At ‘El Sol Verde’ we can arrange all these tours for you, as well as transportation to the park entrance.

In short: Rincón de la Vieja has a lot to offer to nature lovers!

The park protects more than 250 species of birds and is home to the only permanent colony of scarlet macaws.
